Adult Social Care – Local Account 2010/11

North Yorkshire County Council’s Health and Adult Services have published their first annual ‘Local Account’, which gives detailed information on the way adult social care has been provided in 2010-11, and sets out the priorities for 2011-12. All councils with adult social care responsibilities – likeNorth Yorkshire– are now required to produce a Local Account.

The Local Account explains to everyone – the people who use the service, carers, and all taxpayers – how Health and Adult Services set their priorities and actions, and gives people the chance to make their views known on how to shape and improve local services.

There is also an opportunity, on page 27 of the document, for people to say what they think about the Local Account process.

The local account is available from Libraries around the county and on the North Yorkshire County Council website at:

http://www.northyorks.gov.uk/localaccount

The 2011/12 Local Account will be published in summer 2012.

‘Managing Money Better’ – A new grants programme promoting the financial inclusion of older people

£2m of funding will be available in 2012 for projects which help older people cope with the challenging financial climate and the exclusion and hardship they may be facing. There will be two grant cycles in 2012 – in January and April.

PRIORITIES: They want to hear about ideas that can bring about substantial improvements to older people’s lives; to support them to build their skills and knowledge, to manage their money effectively, to guard against financial scams and abuse, and to deal with cold homes.

CRITERIA: They’ll be looking to fund organisations who have some experience of working in this area, as well as those that involve older people in the design and delivery of the activities. They’ll favour projects that develop strategic partnership approaches with voluntary, private and public organisations including local people (of all ages) to meet the needs of older people. They’ll also ensure that our funding targets isolated older people and those who live in the poorest and most deprived areas.

Full details including guidance notes on how to apply and expression of interest forms will be available on their website from January 2012.
